On its 24th anniversary, the Drupal community celebrates a historic milestone with the release of Drupal CMS 1.0, a user-centric evolution of the open-source platform designed to empower marketers, content creators, and site builders. Built on Drupal 11 Core, this release introduces a streamlined approach to website creation while maintaining the flexibility developers expect.

Two Paths, One Platform

Drupal now offers distinct experiences:

  • Drupal Core: A developer-first toolkit for custom builds.

  • Drupal CMS: A ready-to-use solution with out-of-the-box tools like AI-driven site building, advanced media management, GDPR/CCPA-compliant consent tools, SEO optimization, and automatic updates.

Aimed at mid-market and enterprise organizations, Drupal CMS tackles common growth barriers by eliminating the need for patchwork solutions. For example, its built-in privacy management addresses regulatory demands without third-party plugins.

Recipes and AI: Speed Meets Innovation

The standout feature is Recipes—pre-configured packages that automate setup for blogs, events, case studies, and more. With nearly 30 recipes available, users can deploy complex functionality in minutes.

Drupal CMS also pioneers AI agents that go beyond content generation, assisting with tasks like taxonomy configuration and content-type creation. This innovation echoes Drupal’s legacy of early adoption, such as its role in popularizing jQuery.

Community Power and Perception Shift

Over 60 global launch parties highlighted the community’s role in the project’s success. Contributions surged by 40% during development, with 300+ contributors delivering 2,000+ commits. A refreshed brand and updated Drupal.org aim to dispel outdated notions of complexity, supported by new marketing hires at the Drupal Association.

What’s Next?

The 2025 roadmap includes:

  • Experience Builder 1.0 for no-code design.
  • Expanded recipe libraries.
  • Enhanced documentation and branding rollouts.

A free trial of Drupal CMS is available, inviting users to explore its capabilities. The release underscores collaborative open-source development, with acknowledgments to hundreds of contributors, including Acquia, Lullabot, and the Drupal Association.

Drupal CMS 1.0 isn’t just a product launch—it’s a statement. By bridging developer power with marketer-friendly tools, Drupal reaffirms its place as a modern, composable CMS ready for the next decade.
